I am From

I am from the earth.
From the moon and the sun,
from life and from death,
from the water, the soil, and the air.
I am from the roots of the trees,
and the wind that rustles through their leaves.
I am from the depths of the ocean,
and the waves that crash ashore.
I am from rainy days,
and moonlit evenings.
I am from the beauty of living things,
and the ugliness their destruction.
I am from my mother's pain,
and my father's mistakes,
from a family of hard working people.
I am from fear and from anger.
I am from mirrors that show me what I am,
and windows that show me everything I am not.
I am from the past and the future.
I am from the water, the soil, the air,
from life and from death,
from the moon and the sun.
I am from the earth.

  1. This poem has a musical quality...I love the image it makes in print, undulating, beautiful.
